Barber Steve’s set for charity chop

A Spalding barber is turning Movember on its head and getting rid of the beard he’s grown for years.

Steve Jackson has had the around-nine-inch beard for nearly seven years.

The 28-year-old, who works at Stuart’s Barber Shop in Spalding, is doing so particularly to raise awareness of mental health issues.

“I’ve wanted to take part in Movember for a couple of years,” Steve says of the national initiative that encourages men to grow moustaches during November for men’s health issues. “But I’ve waited until now as my son Harry (4) wasn’t quite old enough and I didn’t know if seeing me without a beard for the first time would freak him out.

“The beard started off seven-and-a-half-years ago through laziness really but it’s just grown since.

“Most people don’t even know of me without a beard.

“I am looking forward to getting rid of the length, but not the beard itself.”
Steve will be getting the trim between 6pm and 8pm tonight (Thursday, October 31) at Vapour 888 where he’s a regular and where partner Sally works.

“She’s supportive,” Steve says. “She does love the beard, but is very supportive of the cause.

“I know a lot of people who have been affected by mental health issues so if I can raise awareness of such issues and raise money too, that’s great.”
