Appreciation for years of Payne brothers’ RAFA support

More than 20 years of support for the Holbeach branch of Royal Air Force Association has been marked with a show of appreciation.

The RAFA branch first collected at The Farm Café on the A17 at Fleet in 1992.
Robert Healey, sitting on a pallet of potatoes, filled the collecting tin which Frank Sauntson (now 89) issued to him by raising £108 – and fortunately had a spare one in his car to continue.

The branch quickly found the café and The Anglia Motel opposite to be successful locations – over the years it’s estimated that around £35,000 has been raised.

The respective owners – brothers Bill and Harold Payne – were surprised with a presentation event last Wednesday.
Mr Sauntson said: “We wanted to give them something in appreciation of what they have enabled us to do so the committee decided to give shields.”
