Appeal after dog is impaled on fishing hooks

A dog walker has urged anglers to be more careful after his Siberian Husky was injured by hooks left on a footpath.

Kevin Kibble (62) was walking Rambo along the Coronation Channel in Spalding around 11am on Saturday, December 23 when he got one four-pronged hook in his paw and another in his back leg.
Thankfully Rambo is set to be ok after a trip that took several hours to an emergency vet.
But it cost Kevin £470 in vet’s fees and left his pet so traumatised he wouldn’t leave the house for a few days.
Kevin says he walks the route regularly, but hasn’t since, and had spoken to a lady who had got a similar hook embedded in her foot.
“I was walking along the London Road side and then Rambo just started screaming,” said Kevin. “He was refusing to move.
“I had a hernia so couldn’t move him.
“I had help from another gentleman and had to ring my son-in-law Andy Ford and wake him up after he’d been on a night shift.
“The vet wasn’t open and there was a wait at the emergency vets, plus Rambo then got the hook in his foot stuck on the car seat.
“It left him traumatised. He’s a really healthy eight-year-old dog but he wouldn’t go out in the garden after, but thankfully he seems to be on the mend now.”
Kevin is urging anglers to be more considerate of others and tidy up after themselves.
“One of the hooks still had the fishing line on it,” he continued. “I used to fish myself and had a permit.
“I think a lot don’t but you never see anyone checking permits now.
“When I fished, there used to be quite a few people checking.”
