Knights battle to fine win

After conceding seven goals in each of their last two games, Pinchbeck United kept a clean sheet to earn a first win of the GCE Hire United Counties League Division One season.

Josh Panton’s 71st minute goal was enough to see the Knights beat Gedling Miners Welfare at home.

He swept home after a Marshall Young free kick was parried away by the Nottinghamshire side’s goalkeeper.

And the defence held out for a 1-0 win to cap a deserved first three points of the season for Lewis Thorogood’s side.

They remain bottom of the league but after nine games are now only two points from safety.

There’s the chance to make it back-to-back wins this Saturday as they play the only team level on points with them at the bottom of the division, Pinxton.

Knights: Cox, Denton, Balding, Panton, Cranfield, Huggins, Dale, Young, Waby, Hussein, Ward. Subs: Robbins, Melson, Callaby, King.
Attendance: 35
