The Tydd Gote Angling Club regular Sunday match was fished at Kingsland Resevoir this week – where expectations were high for some good weights.
Organiser Victor Simmonds had arranged to fish the ‘Silvers Lake’ on the Kingsland complex in the hope of persuading some of the bream, tench, roach and rudd to feed.
It might be called the ‘Silvers Lake’ but it abounds with hard fighting carp that rigorously tested many anglers’ tackle and nerves.
Well out in front was Gary Burton with a lovely net of carp to pole and maggot totalling 96lb 12oz, with Martyn Thomas second with 57lb 8oz of carp to maggot and feeder towards the middle of the lake.
Steve Fox was third with a level 50lb of carp mostly caught in the last couple of hours.
Simmonds was determined to catch some silvers and persisted with his usual worm tactics to include a brace of good bream to go with his carp for 45lb 8oz and fourth spot.

- Holbeach and District Angling Club members were on fine form at the South Holland drain on Sunday.
Winning on the day was Jonny Stubley – but that’s only half the story, as a combined weight of 199lb across all the anglers was an amazing result.
Stubley, drawing the bridge peg, managed 41lb of perch and roach.
Second – and pushing the winner hard – was Gary Boxhall with 40lb 4oz.
Third went to Chris Newton with an also impressive 31lb 4oz.
Several other competitors bagged weights of more than 20lb on what was a brilliant morning’s fishing at the club.
