Alan’s birthday gift to charity

A Holbeach charity has been given a birthday gift courtesy of an 80 year old.

When Alan Piggins reached the milestone mark recently, rather than ask for birthday presents, he instead asked for donations to Boxes of Hope and its Community Miracle Shop

He and wife Veronica popped along to hand over £250 to shop manager Anne Candler.

A spokesman for Boxes of Hope said: “A huge thank you to Alan, Veronica, and everyone who donated.

“Your kindness truly means so much.”

As ever, Boxes of Hope remains a hive of activity.

* A representative from Citizen’s Advice will be at its main High Street base every Wednesday.

People can drop in and speak to them from 9.30am to 11.30am.

Pre booked appointments will be in the afternoon via phoning 01406 420261.

* Drop in sessions for victims of domestic abuse are continuing on Fridays.

Contact the previous number for more information.

* Boxes of Hope has raised £100 for another charity.

Its most recent community raffle was in aid of the Holbeach Community Larder.

* On Tuesday, March 17, Boxes of Hope is set to host a day in memory of Holly Bramley who was murdered by her partner three years ago. It will raise funds for domestic abuse charities and promoting Holly’s Law, her mum Annette Chapman’s suggestion for a register of people found guilty of animal cruelty due to links between convictions and people who go on to commit domestic abuse.
