Action against domestic abusers

Three injunctions have been made against people committing domestic abuse, a council has said.

One person was given a suspended prison sentence and told to pay £8,203 in fines and costs as a result of the action brought about by South Holland District Council.

A spokesman for the authority said: “Support from local residents proved vital in these cases, either by providing evidence, or reporting breaches once the injunctions have been put in place.

“As part of the three successful injunctions, the council’s Community Safety team was also able to use further enforcement measures as part of the injunctions, in the form of exclusion orders prohibiting the perpetrators access to the area.

“Where reports of domestic abuse have impacted surrounding residents, such as shouting, swearing, verbal abuse, violence and damage to property – South Holland District Council has the power to not only protect neighbours, including our tenants but also the victim themselves.

“Partnership working proved essential in these cases with Lincolnshire Police providing supportive evidence to help secure the Injunctions. South Holland District Council is also part of the Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Partnership, a county-wide group working together to reduce domestic abuse across Lincolnshire.”

Coun Gary Taylor, portfolio holder for communities and facilities, said: “Domestic abuse is a serious offence and should be dealt with in the harshest possible terms, and our Community Safety team have worked hard over the last year to do just that – protecting victims and residents from a number of perpetrators, using the powers they have available.”

“I would like to thank the members of the public who got in touch with the team, reporting incidents and then going on to provide evidence, they play a pivotal role in protecting vulnerable people.”
