A world stage for martial artist Pound

A martial artist from Holbeach will be taking part in the Tae Kwon Do World Championships in Barcelona.

Graham Pound, who runs Lone Wolf Tae Kwon Do, has been successful in securing a place in the Adult Male 4th Degree Patterns and the Adult Male Destruction.

Whilst training and competing himself, Pound has also been working with a very promising student.

Pound started coaching Inan Akgul when he took over the club two and a half years ago, and says he quickly noticed Akgul’s passion for sparring.

He said: “After lots of hard work he decided to enter the selection process too, and was successful in earning a place on Team UK alongside me, his event being Adult Male Heavyweight Sparring.

“We travel to London together regularly to attend national squad training as well as working closely with Luke Dempsey, who runs our sister club Dempsey Tae Kwon Do, based in Whaplode.

“Lone Wolf and Dempsey TKD form UKITF Region 12, and between the clubs we are confident that this is to be the first of many major championships that our students will qualify for.

“We already have national colour belt title holders and recently took them to Holland to compete and get used to performing on international soil.

“Between myself and Luke we have extensive national and international competition experience as well as ample PT and coaching qualifications; we are excited to create champions to represent our tiny market towns on the world stage.”

The World Championships take place on the week commencing July 21 in Barcelona.
