Could your business save hundreds of pounds?

South Holland District Council is encouraging local businesses to check whether they are entitled to Small Business Rate Relief, potentially saving them hundreds of pounds a year.

Business rates, which are set by the national government rather than local councils, are charged on most non-domestic properties, like shops, offices, pubs and factories.

Hundreds of businesses in South Holland are eligible for some form of relief on these charges, and the council is working to ensure that as many as possible are able to take full advantage of this support.

Rate relief is available to businesses that occupy a property with a Rateable Value below £51,000, with eligible businesses having their bill calculated using the Small Business Rates Multiplier

If the Rateable Value is less than £15,000 they may be entitled to a percentage reduction of up to 100 percent, leaving nothing to pay.

This percentage reduction can only be given if the business only occupies one property, or one main property with any additional properties having a rateable value of less than £2,900 and the total of all properties remaining under £20,000.

Councillor Nick Worth, deputy leader and portfolio holder for growth and commercialisation said: “We are committed to supporting smaller businesses in the district and we want to encourage as many companies as possible to take advantage of this opportunity and claim the support they are entitled to.

“We recognise how high streets and shopping habits are changing nationally and want to work together with businesses and residents to help protect and future-proof our town centres.

“I would urge everyone to explore the business rates pages of our website and, if you are unsure whether you qualify for a particular reduction or discount, please contact our revenues team who will be happy to help.”
