A family took it upon themselves to clear up the litter that’s been dropped around their Pode Hole home recently.
Dad David and his daughters Tabi (14) and Amber Nieburg (11) alongside border terrier Pepper collected 12 bags worth of rubbish and seven tyres from around their North Drove property earlier this month.
They were shocked by what they found with many nitrous oxide gas cannisters among the rubbish.
“We walk our dog down there and I do a bit of running and you just see the same rubbish every day and realise it’s not going to clear itself
“The girls accompanied me for the last bit of a run recently and we just started collecting a bit and it grew from there.
“It was satisfying and great to walk around their afterwards.
“You do feel a bit dodgy clearing up after others, but if we hadn’t have done it, it wouldn’t be cleared up.
“Of course people shouldn’t have to pick up litter as it should be binned in the first place.
“But if everyone looked after their own area a bit it would look a nicer place.”
The only slight hiccup was that some people who saw the family with bags of litter thought that they were fly-tipping it rather than clearing it up.
“They took some photos of us because they thought we were dumping the litter,” David said. “Thankfully they spoke to people who knew what we were doing.”
