Medical Centre out of special measures but ‘requires improvement’

Holbeach Medical Centre is out of special measures but has been told it still ‘requires improvement’.

As previously reported, the Park Road surgery was rated ‘inadequate’ following a Care Quality Commission (CQC).

It was inspected again in September in a report published earlier this month and was rated ‘good’ in being Effective, Caring and being Well-led.

However the CQC inspectors says it still ‘requires improvement’ in the category of being Safe and Responsive and overall.

The most recent report found “no breachers of regulations” after previously finding two breaches of the Health and Social Care Act.

The report by Dr Rosie Benneyworth, chief inspector of primary medical services and integrated care praises the practices “effective systems to protect patients from abuse and avoidable harm” that “Patients received effective care and treatment that met their needs” and that “staff dealt patients with kindness and respect.

However it said: “The process for managing patients in receipt of high-risk medicines was not always effective.”

Dr Benneyworth continued: “I am taking this service out of special measures. This recognises the significant improvements made to the quality of care provided by this service.”

The service has been told to continue to review high-risk medicines, the number of carers and telephones access and appointment availability.
