Billiards round-up: Pyramid race to huge win in week when league lost a legend

Spalding and District Billiards League title-chasers Pyramid A improved their position at the top with a maximum 7-0 win over Gosberton B on Monday night.

They whitewashed Gosberton B on their home table in Bourne, with John Clapton (R90), Eric Wyer (R90) and John Twell (R50) all victorious.

There was at least some relief for beaten Gosberton, with Shane White (O30) and Marcus Pell (O20) both making breaks of 35 on the night.

Also victorious on Monday were Crowland, who saw off Consti B 5-2.

Neil Burton (R70) and Allan Sharman (R70) both enjoyed frame wins for the hosts to seal the win.

IMPRESSIVE BREAK: Consti’s Mick Johnson.

But the star performer on the night was Consti’s Mick Johnson (O170), who pocketed breaks of 76 and 69 as he secured the sole frame success for the Spalding side.

Elsewhere, Donington romped to a 7-0 victory at Gosberton A.

Jim Thompson (R60), Ben Wrigglesworth (R50) and Nigel Brasier (R100) all enjoyed wins in the maximum success.

Thompson and Wrigglesworth also made breaks of 23 and 22 respectively to complete a fine night for the Donington men.

  • The Spalding and District Billiards League has lost one of its most famous players after the passing of Hugh Pinner.

The former Holbeach A cueman had been battling illness for some time and died last week.
