LETTER: What’s happening to Spalding?

What’s happening to the once prosperous, thriving, busy market town of Spalding?

I worked in the town for over 40 years, I loved working there, especially doing my shopping when my working day finished.

Over the years there have been a lot of changes, some for the good, some not so good. New shops come and go. There was always a friendly warm atmosphere. Now it feels doom and gloom hanging over it.

I was there on Wednesday and saw minimum footfall, I find out Bonmache is closing, Beales looks like being next, then find out M&S food hall is closing its doors. I’m gutted, saddened and feel things will only get worse.

Car park fees going up, everyone keeps blaming online shopping. Spalding is slowly becoming a ghost town, I feel sorry for the workers who will be made redundant, the businesses which are left to survive.

Are the local council trying to help or just paying lip service?
