Cafe is just the tonic for area

A charity run community cafe has officially opened its doors.

Tonic 44 on Station Road is adjacent to the village hall and Glen Park and will also double as Spalding Hockey Club’s clubhouse.

It’s been created by the Tonic Health well-being charity in a former art gallery.

Funding for the cafe has been received from Sport England, local donations as part of a ‘buy a brick’ scheme, and Surfleet Parish Council alongside help and support from many local building trades who have provided significant help in updating the former disused art gallery.

Chair of Trustees Michael Morris said: “I hope Tonic 44 to become an integral part of the village and bring together the community spirit amongst residents local and further afield.

“A full menu of breakfasts, light lunches and freshly baked cakes is on offer to tempt customers, together with Stokes of Lincoln coffee and hot beverages.

“The cafe also serves local bottled real ales and low/non-alcoholic beers for those who fancy something a little different.

“The toilets will also be made available to non-customers who are walking past/visiting the park, or as part of an onward journey.

“There will be several groups and activities running throughout the week for members of the community to engage with, including a reading group, board games, art class, craft sessions and toddler times.

“There is also a range of books and board games available for people to use whilst enjoying their coffee and cake, keeping every mind active.”
