Hussey: Holbeach United title charge is not a ‘realistic’ option despite lofty position

Realistic Holbeach United boss Danny Hussey doesn’t feel that his in-form side can be considered contenders for the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division title.

The Tigers sit fourth in the table, 13 points behind leaders Shepshed Dynamo with a game in hand, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Oadby Town (3pm).

Holbeach haven’t lost in the league since a 4-3 beating at Leicester Nirvana, but have seen their last two fixtures rained off – including the scheduled trip to Lutterworth Town last Saturday.

In contrast, Oadby come into the clash in a lowly 17th place.

Hussey, however, feels they are in a false position.

“It’ll be nice to get a game in,” quipped the Tigers boss. “At this rate, we’ll all be playing midweek games at the end of the season.

“It is a shame that we’ve not had games the past two weeks, we have been in good form.

“Does that mean we are in the title mix? I don’t really think so.

“I said it last week, but we’re punching above our weight. Lots of teams spend more than us.

“What I will say is that we have players capable of winning this league.

“But about eight teams have better or similar budgets than us, so it’s very difficult for us – I’m just being realistic.

“It’ll also be difficult for us on Saturday. I’ve spoken to a few people and the theme seems to be that they play good football, have a good budget and should be much higher up.

“The way the weather has been, I can’t imagine their pitch being great this weekend, though.

“As always, we’ll go there looking to win. If we apply ourselves correctly, we have a very good chance of getting a win.

“We’ve got a nice settled squad and everyone is enjoying their football, which is all I can ask for at this stage.”

Joe Braithwaite and Ryan Oliver are fit and available for selection again, while Michael Frew continues to make progress in his recovery from injury.
