Disqualified driver evades jail after driving to shops because it was raining

A Spalding man has been told he is ‘lucky’ he was ‘not looking at custody’ after he admitted driving to the shops, despite being disqualified.

Boston Magistrates heard that James Webb, 32, of St Marks Road, who admitted the offence, was banned from driving under the totting up procedure until December but had been found driving in Skirbeck Road by police at 11.30am on September 7.

Tony Davies, mitigating, said Webb had driven to the shops ‘because it was raining’.

He was banned from driving for another year, fined £120 and ordered to pay £117 in costs and charges.
