Golf round-up: Tydd St Giles GC’s Popular Game Bird Open raises £200 for Diabetes UK

A total of 28 players helped Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s Game Bird Open raise £200 for Diabetes UK.

With ladies from all over the region taking part, Tydd captain Liz Miller thanked all for contesting the four ball better ball format event, which raised funds for her chosen charity.

Spalding Golf Club duo Lizzie Cooke and Jacqui Walton were the winners on 40 points, with Maria Taylor-Vassal (Tydd) and Maggie Clarkson (King’s Lynn) second on 39 points.

Debra Darling (Costessey Park GC) and Jayne Harold (Sheringham GC) were third with 37 points, having pipped Brenda Bell and Nicky Elphhick (Sutton Bridge GC) on countback.

Nearest the pin (fourth hole) was Jenny Wilson (Spalding GC), Nicky Elphick and Walton took the honours on holes 16 and 18 (in two) respectively.

  • Men’s section: Directors Salver (par bogey competition): Division One – 1st Paul Chaplain-Barton +5; 2nd Harry Turner +3; 3rd Scott Williams +2.

Division Two – 1st Phil Tilney +2 (ocb); 2nd Derek Hodgson +2; 3rd Steve Slim +1.

Division Three – 1st Keith Power +3; 2nd David Pluck +1; 3rd Ben Longmuir =0.

Spalding Golf Club

Matthew Richardson claimed first place in Spalding Golf Club’s midweek nine-hole Stableford competition.

His score of 19 points edged out three players on 18 points, with Mike Murphy, Phil Calvert and Darren Ford placing second, third and fourth respectively.

Nick Holmes and Ian Maxwell completed the top six, with both securing 17 points.

  • Maurice Crunkhorn was the winner of this year’s Massey Cup knockout competition at Spalding GC.
  • Club Trophy Qualifier: 1st Louie Gooderson (16) 69; 2nd Stuart East (12) 69; 3rd David King (17) 69; 4th Mick Bell (26) 70; 5th Spencer Gooderson (5) 71; 6th John Spencer (10) 71.
  • The Spalding Golf Club past captains’ annual reunion took place last Thursday, with a 13-hole event taking place in great weather conditions.

Ladies’ section: Some 27 Spalding ladies offered invitations to ladies from other clubs to join them at the annual invitation day.

The winners of the fourball/better ball Stableford (played off a 90 per cent handicap) were Paula Brown and Dorne Werner on 37 points.

Tracy Siddle and Tracey Harrison were second ahead of Jenny Wilson and Tracy Rawlings on countback after both scored 36 points.

  • The Vilma Radcliffe Cup attracted 33 entries. The winner was Nicky Weller with 39 Stableford points and a handicap cut of two. Second, on count back, was Jane Darley (34pts) with Sally West third.
  • The first round of the Groom Shield attracted 24 entries. A bogey competition, the top 75 per cent played in the second round.

The winner was Gill Dewhurst (-1), with Nicky Weller (-2) and Maureen Orwell (-2) completing the top three.
