A scrum-ptious way to learn

Gosberton House Academy held a Rugby World Cup scouting for school’s afternoon to celebrate the start of the tournament in Japan.

In their classes children learnt a ‘haka’ and designed their own team kits, rugby balls, colouring in flags of the countries and building up fact files about the competing nations.

The whole school signed a Japanese flag that represents the five values of rugby (integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline, respect).

The children also had a mini rugby session in the hall where they had to avoid being tagged as well as putting their ‘haka’ into practice against teachers.

A spokesman for the school said: “To hear some parents tell us their children have shown an interest in the rugby on TV since the scouts afternoon shows the positive impact and effectiveness these afternoons have. To see the pupils so excited and engaged in something new, whilst also independently seeking further information about countries of the tournament and the five values was wonderful.”
