Taylor’s latest Spalding Hockey Club summer camp is a huge success

The eighth annual Matt Taylor Summer Camp was once again a resounding success for Spalding Hockey Club.

Close to 50 South Lincolnshire youngsters, the majority from the host club, attended the camp at Surfleet’s Glen Park and were put through their paces by Taylor and his highly-rated team.

Taylor, who is a former England international and is currently Director of Hockey at Nottingham University, brought with him a team of highly experienced coaches – with all of them either former internationals or currently playing at national league level.

The youngsters enjoyed learning new skills and competing in small sided games in what was a highly enjoyable two-day camp.

At the end of the camp, Taylor praised the youngsters for their skills and commitment through the two hot days and complimented the group on their great attitude throughout.

At the end of the camp, Taylor and his team awarded prizes to the winners of each age group. They are as follows: Goalkeeper – Oscar Haunch (Spalding HC); Junior age group – Reuben Rogers (Spalding HC); Intermediate group – Norah Brill (Bourne/Deeping HC); Senior group – George Halgarth (Spalding HC); Overall player of the camp – Ivy Kettlewell (Stamford School).

Spalding hope that Taylor will return next year, with the ninth annual camp planned for August 19 and 20, 2020.

  • Spalding Hockey Club’s popular junior coaching sessions for boys and girls aged six to 14 years get under way at Glen Park (PE11 4DB) on Saturday.

These sessions will run from 9.15am to 10.45am and will be held weekly until the Christmas break on December 14.

The club asks for £3.50 per week or £35 for the 14-week programme to cover pitch hire and equipment costs.

All in attendance are asked to wear suitable trainers and shin pads. Sticks will be provided if necessary.

The club has arranged to start this autumn programme with inter-club tournaments at under-9, under-11 and under-13 age levels.

More than 60 youngsters have already accepted invitations to play and if you would like to attend, you should contact Fred Morris via email at fredricmorris@yahoo.co.uk to book your place or to request some further information.
