Easton: FA Cup run is an important objective for Spalding United this year

Matt Easton is determined to improve Spalding United’s recent poor form in the Emirates FA Cup.

The Tulips host Isthmian League North Division side Dereham Town at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday (3pm) as they bid to mount a decent run in the competition for the first time in recent memory.

Boss Easton feels that going on a run in the national competition is “important” for everyone associated with the club.

He said: “We’ve been pretty poor in most cup competitions over the past few seasons.

“As far as I’m concerned, having a run in the FA Cup is very important this year.

“It’s something that would really lift the players – and it’s something I’d relish as a manager, too.

“I’ll be telling the lads to go full steam and really give it a good go.

“Dereham are a good side and we’ll have to be at our best. It’ll be a tough fixture.

“We’ll certainly look to pick the strongest possible side and really give it our best shot on Saturday.

“A win in the FA Cup not only brings in money to the club, but it raises morale and gets everybody in a positive mindset.

“So it’s something of a priority for myself and the players this year.”

The Tulips are also in BetVictor NPL South East Division action at Lincoln United on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm) in what is their first derby of the season.
