LETTER: Removing stones from the beach is illegal

I was appalled to see The Voice aiding and abetting a criminal act this week.

On page 22 you have included a feature entitled “Cheap ways to improve your garden”. Under the section “DIY water feature” it clearly says “Collect pebbles and stones from the beach…”

I must advise you that removing stones from beaches is illegal under the Coast Protection Act 1949.

People have been prosecuted for doing so and many local authorities advise their visitors of the willingness to take action if the law is broken by removing stones from the beach.

You may wish to make this clear in your next issue of the paper and advise your advertiser of the facts.
