Long Sutton beaten by Skegness

Long Sutton were beaten comprehensively by Skegness in the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division at the weekend.

After winning the toss Sutton elected to bat first at Paradise Field and despite losing opener Luke Barnes for a three ball duck, they looked in a good place thanks to skipper Dan Oldfield (30) and Phil Barnes (23).

However they collapsed with just number 10 Rob Simpson (15 not out) and number 11 Daniel Plant (9) getting more than five otherwise.

The latter two’s efforts did get Sutton up to 108 and they had hope when Beau Newman (2-40) struck twice early on.

However Pete Houghton (32) and Tim Hughes (47 not out) played well to get their side out of trouble.

Though Houghton was bowled by Rob Simpson (1-30), Norman Brackley hit 15 not out from 17 as Skegness sealed a seven wicket win in the 29th over.

l Long Sutton 2nd fell an agonising nine runs short in their Division Two run chase at Billingborough 2nd.

In a low scoring game Andy Shaw (2-12 from six) gave Sutton a great start with two early wickets, but the star of the show was Charlie Crisp who claimed 6-44 in a fine 10.2 over spell.

His wickets included bowling Billingborough’s top scorer Ben Stanley for 42 and opener Jon Paul Dollery (23).

Emmy Gittins (1-26) and Joe Whitaker (1-7) also chipped in as the home side were 137 all out in the 35th over.

With plenty of overs to play with, Andrew Wright and Jeremy Smith cautiously gave Sutton a good start to the reply.

They scored 19 and 16 respectively but a number of batsmen came and went thereafter.

Only Andy Shaw (21) in the middle order was able to make an impression, but the rail did wag with Crisp (28) at nine and Joe Whitaker (11) edging their side towards the victory.

However they were 128 all out in the 51st over, just nine runs short.
