Club is aiming to make a racket at smashing open day

The courts for Spalding Tennis Club are open for all this Sunday with free coaching sessions among the options on offer.

The Holyrood Walk club are holding their annual Open Day from 2pm to 4.30pm on Sunday, July 21.

A spokesman for the club, which is just off Clay Lake (PE11 2RY), said: “Everyone of all ages is welcome to play on our beautiful courts.

“They can play for free and we have free coaching sessions on offer.

“There’s plenty of rackets and balls and we’ll even have free refreshments.

“Come along and have a great afternoon playing tennis.”

  • It’s been a mixed weekend of results for Spalding Tennis Club, though they are through to the final of the Boston and District Mixed League. The team of Martin Perkins, Mary Clay, Joe Gill, Lucinda Layton Hannam, Stuart Nichelson and Phillipa Peach beat Horncastle to reach the final of the competition.
  • It was a week to forget for the Spalding A side in Peterborough and District Division One as a side containing Martin Perkins, Mary Clay, John Farrow, Ben Brittain, Julian Warrick and Adam Freeman lost 9-0 to Stamford A.
  • Spalding B steamed to a 5-4 win over Railway A.
    The squad contained Carl Newell, Sam Burrell, Mike Stich, David Baldwin, Jack Howard and Marius Skrebe.
  • In the Peterborough and District League Division Three Spalding C lost 5-4 to Deeping E and were represented by Michael and Mathew Pearl, Andy Rix, Steve Knight, Ian and Chris Argent.
  • Also in Division Three Spalding D won 8-1 against Whittlesey B and were represented by Ben and Millie Brittain, Noah Freeman, Howard Baxter, Joe Brookes and Gavin Staite.
