Spalding’s ‘A’ team suffer a derby defeat at the hands of rivals Deeping

Spalding Tennis Club’s A team suffered a 7-2 defeat against Deeping A in their latest Peterborough and District League Division One fixture.

Martin Perkins, Joe Gill, John Farrow, James Gregory, Adam Freeman and James Bowser all performed admirably, but they were unable to get a result.

There was better news in Division Two, as the Spalding B team represented by Carl Newell, David Baldwin, Ian Argent, Mike Stich, Marius Skrebe and Jack Howard were on winning form.

They defeated Castor B by an emphatic 8-1 scoreline.

The scoreline was also 8-1 in Division Three, as Spalding C took on Stamford E.

The result went in favour of the Spalding team made up of Andy Rix, Ian Argent, Steve Knight, Howard Baxter, Mathew Pearl and Julian Warrick.

Also in Division Three, Spalding D won 7-2 against Kings Cliffe and were represented by Martin, Ben and Millie Brittain, Noah Freeman, Joe Brookes and George Taylor.

In the Boston Mixed League, Spalding won 6-3 away at Billinghay.

Turning out for Spalding were Martin and Marion Perkins, Stuart Nicholson, Joe Gill, Lucinda Layton Hannam and Mary Clay.

Meanwhile in the Peterborough and Huntington Mixed League, Spalding suffered an 8-0 loss at home to City of Peterborough C.

Phillipa Peach, Jill Warrick, John Constable and Richard Ebbage played in the loss.

However, in their following match they won 6-2 away at Ramsey B and were represented by Phillipa Peach, Jill Warrick, Carl Newell and Jack Howard.

In the ladies’ Lincolnshire Seniors League, Spalding lost 8-0 to a strong Boston side and were represented by Amanda Halifax, Natasha Tooley, Gill Williams and Maggie Staite.

In the Lincolnshire Team Tennis Girls’ League (under-16s), Spalding lost 12-0 to a strong Boston side. Ellie Blackburn, Helen Willis, Ellen Carthy and Rose Allport made up the team.
