Spalding Gymnastics Academy’s top talents star at county championships

The future looks bright for Spalding Gymnastics Academy as their up-and-coming talents impressed across the board at the Lincolnshire Level 7/6 Championships.

Getting the ball rolling at Level 7, in the nine years age group, was Poppy Payne with an amazing gold medal.

In the age ten years group, Charlotte Hinchliffe was seventh, but there was a Spalding clean-sweep in the next category up.

That’s after Liberty Walkland (gold), Emily Cowlard (silver) and Meghan Clarke (bronze) locked out the podium in the 11 years group.

Payne was then crowned overall county Level 7 champion, while also becoming the beam champion.

Walkland and Cowlard also shared the floor championship, with the latter also claiming the vault championship prize.

Moving onto the Level 6 competitors, Spalding’s gymnasts once again showed just how much strength they have in the club.

In the eight-year-old group, Ruby White was the first to win gold.

At ten years, Leah Crowder repeated the trick and won a gold of her own, while Gabby Wilson claimed silver and Maribel Loy just missed out on a medal in fourth.

Narrowly behind them were Sienna Bailey (fifth) and Naihya Trotter (seventh).

In the 11 years age group, Hannah Lessiter was fourth and Meghan Sieling took eighth, while in the 12 years age group Cassie Corcoran secured the silver medal and Imogen Cook finished fourth.

Overall for the day at Level 6, Crowder was the silver medal winner, Wilson won bronze and Loy was fifth.

On the Individual Apparatus at Level 6, White was the bar champion ahead of team-mate Crowder in the bronze medal spot.

Beam saw Wilson seal second with Loy fourth. Wilson was also the floor champion as Loy finished in third position.
