A Crowland student has won a prestigious music award after music industry bigwigs unanimously chose his song.
Peterborough Regional College student William Barkhouse, who is currently studying the BTEC Level 3 90-Credit Diploma in Music, recently took part in a music competition run by Rethinkyourmind, which is a mental wellbeing charity, at Leicester College ‘s Sue Townsend Theatre.
A poem was given to all contestants to create a song from and was then performed live in front of a judging panel.
The judges, who included industry professionals Tony Brooks (The Kooks and Beverley Knights tour manager), SuRie (UK Eurovision Contest entry 2018) and Tom Clarkson (Music Video director), unanimously picked William Barkhouse as the winner and his prize includes high tea at the House of Lords, professional recording sessions to record the single for the new Audio Yellow Book album that Rethinkyourmind release, and a session in a top London Studio.
Will said: “It was a very long day, especially as I was the last to perform and it was unnerving watching the other acts but I had faith in my abilities and kept my mind focused on my lyrics and performance. It was fantastic to win especially as I can now record my own music in a London Studio.”
