County second for crack and heroin

Lincolnshire has the second highest amount of crack cocaine and opiate addicts in the East Midlands, according to government estimates.

Lincolnshire has an estimated 3,669 addicts, second only to Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands, which has an estimated 4,292 addicts.

A spokesman for addiction treatment experts UKAT said: “Worryingly, these figures don’t even include anyone using cocaine in powder form, amphetamines, ecstasy or cannabis.”

Of the 25,000 total addicts in the East Midlands, the figures reveal 2,000 15 to 24-year-olds are currently addicted to the substances.

The spokesman continued: “They’re seeking the feeling of euphoria at pocket money prices – crack rocks can be purchased for as little as a fiver with dealers available any time of day at the click of a button.”

The largest group of addicts is 35-64, with 15,192 people addicted.

Specific figures for the South Holland region were not available.
