Arts money projects include opera and sculpture trail

A leading local arts company has revealed its plans for the recently secured half-a-million-pound funding, with projects including a sculpture trail and an opera.

Arts group Transported has been awarded £500,000 to be shared between projects in South Holland and Boston over the next three years.

In South Holland, the programme is set to partner with the Spalding and District Civic Society to create a sculpture trail in Spalding town centre, with the first sculpture commemorating the traditional May Hiring Fair of the agricultural industry.

Transported said it will also continue to partner with FreshLinc – a national haulage company based just outside Spalding – to create a new contemporary opera that tells the story of food from plough to plate and will include live performances to food factories and their surrounding villages.

Nick Jones, Transported Programme Director, said: “Arts Council’s decision demonstrates confidence in the programme reaching its objectives and allows us to work with more people to ensure ambitious and innovative art experience are part of making Boston and South Holland a great place to live, work, visit.

“Transported is keen to create new art works with local residents and to give voice to the story of the place and what makes it special and unique. We want to hear your ideas, please do get in touch.”

Transported is a Creative People and Places (CPP) programme which specifically aims to improve engagement with the arts in regions where participation is generally low and rather than simply dictating what the art provision should be, ask the public to determine what art and cultural provision is wanted and what will be of most benefit to the community.
