Danny Hussey has challenged in-form winger Billy Smith to break the 20-goal barrier with Holbeach United this season.
Smith, who got the winner in last Saturday’s 2-1 success at Peterborough Northern Star, has seven goals in his last seven games for the red-hot Tigers.
Hussey had wanted Smith to get seven goals before the end of the season, but has revised the target after his recent purple patch.
He said: “Billy has been in great form recently.
“When I arrived at the club, he’d perhaps not been producing enough of what he is capable of.
“We sat down and had a talk; and I challenged him to get seven goals before the end of the season.
“Since then he’s got seven in as many games, which is amazing.
“I know the ability he’s got and now his target is 21 goals for the season – which would be impressive if he can manage it.
“I think as an attacking unit we can all look to score more goals. We’ve often got four forwards on the pitch, but it’s our defensive record that is as good as anybody at this level (24 conceded in 28 games).”
Despite seeing their winning run ended by a 1-1 draw with Boston Town on Saturday, Hussey is hopeful that his side can extend their unbeaten run in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division to nine games ahead of Saturday’s home fixtures with Desborough Town (3pm).
But the boss doesn’t believe his side can finish any higher than fourth in the table.
He added: “Obviously we’d love to make it nine games unbeaten.
“Desborough are a side I don’t know a great deal about, but they’ve had some good results this season. It’s important we take the right attitude into the game.
“Even if we keep winning, I think fourth place is the best we can expect. The top three are a bit too far ahead.”
