Hoggard backed to be a championship contender after securing an F3 seat

Weston Hills ace Johnathan Hoggard will graduate to the BRDC British F3 Championship with Fortec Motorsport in 2019.

He makes the step up from British F4 after a hugely impressive 2018 campaign which saw him take a total of eight victories and six pole positions on his way to third overall in the championship standings.

A remarkable second half of the season saw him score more points than any other driver, set a new lap record at Knockhill and end the year having led the most laps across the season, just missing out the championship record since its inception in 2015.

After the conclusion of the F4 campaign, Hoggard experienced his first taste of the Tatuus-Cosworth British F3 car at Silverstone – and immediately impressed.

Speaking to www.britishf3.com, Hoggard said: “I am incredibly excited and thrilled we have finalised everything allowing me to compete in the 2019 British F3 season with Fortec Motorsport, continuing our successful partnership from 2018.

“I declined multiple strong offers to race in European championships but the BRDC British F3 Championship was always my preferred option given its history, stability and the thrill when driving the British F3 car – which suits my driving style.

“The 2019 objectives are to carry the strong form from the end of last season into the start of the new season, focus on podium finishes and look to mount a strong championship challenge.

“I am extremely grateful to my sponsor Shop4 All Electrical Ltd and Fortec Motorsport for making this year happen.”

Fortec’s BRDC British F3 Team Manager Russell Dixon added: “He developed rapidly with us last year and was the standout driver by the end of the season, and if he continues that development in British F3, he will be a regular race winner and most likely a strong championship contender.”
