Man who had knife in Punchbowl sent to jail

A man seen with a folded lock-knife in a Spalding pub and subsequently chased by police has been sent to jail.

Ben Heffernan, 22, of Wide Bargate, Boston, had already pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article, namely a folded lock knife, in a public place in the incident at The Punchbowl on July 7 last year.

He was sentenced to eight months in jail at Lincoln Crown Court on February 8. A further three month sentence was imposed for what Spalding Police Inspector Gareth Boxall described as “another matter.”

The offence was committed when Heffernan was in breach of a seven month suspended prison sentence imposed at Grimsby Crown Court in 2017 for an offence of affray.

Inspector Boxall said: “This sentence reflects the seriousness of carrying a knife in public. Our officers responded swiftly to the incident; we are committed to taking the most robust action we can to ensure that knives are not carried or subsequently used as weapons in South Holland.”
