Easton hoping to add two new signings to complete Spalding United squad

Spalding United boss Matt Easton is closing on two new signings as he bids to finalise a squad he hopes will secure their Evo-Stik NPL East Division status.

With Ben Davison’s move to Lincoln United expected to be completed yesterday (Wednesday), Easton also hoped to complete swoops for a central midfield and a full-back.

Having made wholesale changes since replacing Chris Rawlinson in the Tulips hot seat back in September, the manager now feels he has the squad required to move forward.

He said: “I’ll be very pleased if we can get these two over the line. I think the squad will finally be complete if we do.

“It has taken a while to get the squad that I want, but I think we’re there now.

“The remit is to stay up this year and build a squad for next season.

“If these two signings get sorted, I think we’ll be set to achieve both goals and we can move forward with this group of players.”

Easton admitted that he was disappointed with last weekend’s 2-1 loss at Lincoln United (see page 36), but felt there were numerous positives for his Tulips ahead of

Saturday’s Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field showdown with mid-table Frickley Athletic (3pm).

He added: “We played the better football at Lincoln and deserved better.

“We need to keep that going against Frickley. They got a good result last weekend but it’s a game that we have to look to win.

“I know that they are very good going forward and we’ll have a plan to nullify their threat.

“Hopefully our quality will shine through.”

Spalding go into the game in 16th place, three points off the foot and eight points behind Frickley in 13th spot.
