Services E closed to within one point of leaders Pyramid B in Spalding and District Snooker League Division One on Thursday night as the title race continued to heat up.
With the pace-setters not in action, Services E edged a tight tussle with Holbeach D to close the gap between themselves and the summit – although the Bourne side now have a game in hand.
A 25 clearance from Chris Dunmore (O14) and Pete Fisher’s (O28) 24 break en-route to winning the decisive final frame were the highlights for the high-flying Spalding outfit.
Three points further back are Holbeach A, who also picked up four points.
They defeated hosts Donington C in a clash that saw Jem Merrison (O42) shine with a 36 break, while Matt Turner (O21) also hit a 30 break for the beaten home side.
Holbeach have a game in hand on second-placed Services E, meaning they’re bang in the title mix.
Fourth-placed Bourne SC A won by the popular 4-2 scoreline, too, picking off Long Sutton A.
Star man Mark Gray (O105) reeled off a week high 66 break for them.
At the foot, Consti F remain rock bottom after going down 4-2 at fellow strugglers Boundary B.
The pair were locked together on points prior to the clash, but frame wins from Dan Smith (O7), Andy Mowforth (O7) and Brian Addy (R7) got the Deepings side over the line.
Elsewhere, a fine 39 break from Tony Scully (O35) couldn’t stop Donington A going down 5-1 at Holbeach C. Paul Boucher (O28) replied with a cool 20 for the hosts.
Down in Division Two, Boundary A are one point clear at the summit following a 5-1 success at Gosberton A.
Their wins came from Peter King (scr), Barry Malthouse (R14), John Tidswell (O14) and Stewart Lilley (scr).
Second-placed Const G saw off hosts Services B 4-2 to remain on their coattails, with a black-ball success from John Barnes (O14) proving to be key.
Behind them, two of the chasing pack clashed as Holbeach B knocked off third-placed hosts Long Sutton B to go fifth.
Phil Goodman’s (O42) 26 break was the chief highlight for defeated Sutton.
Down in Division Three, only two games were played.
A fine 34 break from Steve Jennings (O28) steered Whittlesey A to a 5-1 success at Donington D, while John Clapton’s (scr) final frame success over John Cooper (R21) gave Pyramid E a 4-2 victory over Consti D.
