It was a mixed week for the Spalding and District Table Tennis League as four league matches were played and two cup ties were resolved – but there were also three postponements and an unfinished match.
Division One leaders Moulton SE strengthened their grip at the top with a second 5-0 win over Nets and Edges.
However, they admitted that the scoreline in no way reflected what happened where they came from behind twice and lost a two end lead.
Rivals South Holland were only able to field one player in their fixture with Jokers, but Jean White came away with one of the two points available.
Wesley Roper won for Jokers who are still fourth, while Holland are now five off the lead with two matches to complete.
JDM also lost ground on the leaders when they defeated Underdogs 3-2.
Kelvin Preville set Underdogs off with a win and picked up the final point.
But JDM’s Jon and Tom Chesworth won the middle two singles and the doubles to take the match.
They move ahead of Holland but like Moulton have completed more matches.
Outsiders and Mine’s a Pint fought out a close match which the former won 3-2, moving both teams further away from Nets n Edges at the foot.
Garry Wilkinson won both his singles for Outsiders and Jeremy Hitcham and Andrew Hay took one each of theirs, but the doubles decided the match.
That was won in four ends as was the first singles, but Hay battled through both his to a fifth end in each.
With all the Division Two scheduled matches postponed, TNC and Assassins brought their match forward from late February.
The leaders, TNC, moved five clear thanks to a 4-1 victory in which Adrian Louis won both his singles while team mate Matt Cole won one and they teamed up to take the doubles.
Carlos Caneiro won the first singles for Assassins.
In Round One of the Marylands Cup TNC, holding a 2-0 lead, took the third point to go through against Jokers, as did JDM against Rusty Nails.
