Snooker round-up: Maximum win fires Holbeach A into the title race

It was a good week for Holbeach A in Spalding and District Snooker League Division One as they cashed in superbly on slip-ups from the leading two teams.

They roared to a 6-0 derby victory over friendly foes Holbeach C in a game that saw Colin Dodd (O14) and Jem Merrison (O42) bag breaks of 27 and 23 respectively.

Boasting a game in hand on Pyramid B and Services E above them, the third-placed side are now just eight points off the summit and three away from going second.

That’s after table-topping Pyramid B suffered a 4-2 reverse at Long Sutton A.

Steve Dent’s (R7) final-frame win over Alfonso Palumbo (O49) was key for Sutton, despite the latter making a cool 39 break.

Second-placed Services E fared even worse, as they slumped 5-1 at lowly Tulips A.

Frame wins from Simon Law (scr), Brett Maddison (scr), Mike Sampson (O7) and Martin Anderson (O7) got the job done for Tulips.

Elsewhere in the top flight, a 32 break from Mark Woodberry (O56) and a 25 clearance from Darren Woodberry (O35) steered Tulips B to a 5-1 success at Services C.

Neil Reynolds (R21) also impressed with a 23 break and 25 clearance, but his Donington C side were upset 4-2 by basement side Consti F.

In Division Two, leaders Boundary A were stunned 6-0 at home by Pyramid D as Marcus Hamilton (O28) made a 24 break and James Sharpe (O42) added 22.

That allowed Consti G to move level with them at the top after they edged out Crowland B.

The pair are five points clear of Long Sutton B in third after they went down 4-2 at Pyramid C.

One point further back are Services A, who beat club-mates Services B 4-2 despite a 22 break from Tim Nash (O28).

Meanwhile, Donington B have moved ahead in the Division Three title race after a 4-2 win over Consti A. Mick Clark’s (R7) final frame win over Consti A got them over line.

Title rivals Long Sutton C went down 5-1 at home to Pyramid E to fall three points off the pace and allow third-placed Holbeach E to move within a point of them.

That’s after they won 4-2 at Services D, with Ben Harding (O21) making a 25 break en-route to winning the final frame.
