Relief road to close crossings?

Lincolnshire County Council and Network Rail are discussing the potential closure of level crossings around Spalding.

As part of negotiations around the South Western Relief Road, both authorities are working out which crossing or crossings could be lost once the road is open for traffic.

“We are currently considering options for the closure of some level crossings in the area to improve safety. The process is ongoing and we will provide a further update in due course,” said a spokesman for Network Rail.

The county council also gave no indication as to which crossings may be closed to traffic once the much-mooted road is opened.

“As part of the designs, Network Rail is considering options for the closure of some level crossings in the area,” said Coun Richard Davies, executive member of the county council for highways who added that it was early days.
