Turbine for £100m plant turns heads

Roads in South Holland were closed on Sunday as a generator that’s part of a £100 million energy project was delivered to the area.

The F-class gas turbine built by Siemans was delivered to Spalding Power Station after being shipped into Sutton Bridge port.

It’s a major part of power station operators Intergen’s new Spalding Energy Expansion project.

The 300 megawatt natural gas-fired project is due to be completed in June 2019 and is set to lead to the creation of 20 full time jobs.

It will sit alongside the current power station which became operational in 2004.

Rolling road closures were put in place on Sunday as the huge turbine was delivered to West Marsh Road.
InterGen’s CEO, Tim Menzie said: “Spalding Energy Expansion will provide much needed peaking capacity to the grid for UK electricity consumers.
