Student grant fund cash still available

A fund set up to offer financial support to students from Holbeach and the surrounding area has allocated a large sum of money so far this year – but more is still available.

The George Farmer Educational Foundation committee met this week to agree on the grants for the year and allocated a total of £17,500.

Committee member Isobel Hutchinson said that money was still available for students in exceptional circumstances.

Money given out from the foundation is allocated to assist with education.

This year, £10,500 has been split between Holbeach schools (University Academy Holbeach, Holbeach Primary Academy, William Stukeley Church of England Primary School and Small Saints).

Mrs Hutchinson said the rest of the money has been given to individual students, who received a grant of £250 each.

“We are aware that not all students that are eligible for a grant apply and we will continue to work with the schools to ensure that students are made aware of the grants we offer,” she said.

“We would remind students and parents that we can offer help to students of any age, not just post 18, in exceptional circumstances and if they wish to be considered they should apply in writing to the clerk of governors outlining their need and what the money would be used for.

“This process is open throughout the year.”

Students who are in post-18 education can apply for a grant each year that they are in education, and will need to submit their application form by the end of September each year.

These are available from the clerk to governors.

All students with a home address in the parish of Holbeach are eligible, which includes the outlying villages of St Marks, Hurn, Bank, St Johns and Drove. All enquiries and correspondence should be sent to the clerk at griffin325@btinternet.com
