A dispute which began with a woman being assaulted ended with a man being stabbed in the leg, Lincoln Crown Court was told today (Mon).
Luke Cannon stabbed his victim Gregory Duffy in the thigh during an incident in Roman Bank, Spalding.
Jonathon Dee, prosecuting, said there was a confrontation between the men before Cannon stabbed Mr Duffy in the left thigh.
Cannon then left the scene and Mr Duffy was taken to hospital where he had three stitches in his wound.
Mr Dee said that the background to the stabbing was a dispute which erupted after Mr Duffy’s girlfriend was assaulted.
Mr Duffy went looking for the person he believed had committed the assault seeking revenge.
That led to a confrontation in which Cannon, who was not the person accused of the original assault, became involved.
Mr Dee said “During the course of the confrontation there was a blow which caused a cut to Mr Duffy’s leg. It started to bleed.
“The defendant was shouting and swearing and then left the scene.”
Cannon, 26, of Alexandra Road, Spalding, admitted a charge of unlawfully wounding Gregory Duffy as a result of the incident on 28 October 2016.
He was given a 12 month jail sentence suspended for two years with a 56 day night-time curfew. Cannon was also given a six month restraining order banning him from contacting Mr Duffy.
Judge Simon Hirst, passing sentence, told Cannon: “It seems to me that in the circumstances of how this arose and the fact that two years have passed since that I can suspend the sentence.”
Neil Sands, in mitigation, said that there had been subsequent problems between the parties.
He told the court that Cannon has been out of trouble for six years and has health problems which resulted in him being fitted with a pacemaker.
