A Pinchbeck man who was found with four kitchen knives in his car when police went to his home after an allegation that he had assaulted his partner, has been ordered to carry out unpaid work for the community.
Leigh William Squance (43) of Glenside North, admitted assaulting a woman by beating, possessing four kitchen knives in a public place as well as drunk driving, when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.
Prosecuting, Ruth Snoden said police were called by the woman following her being assaulted by her partner, Squance, who had left the scene in his BMW car by the time officers arrived.
While the officers were there, she said, Squance returned and the officers searched his car and found the knives.
She said they also breathalysed him and he gave a positive reading of 70 microgrammes of breath in 100 millilitres of breath, twice the legal limit of 35.
In mitigation, Beck Foley said the couple had been out drinking but he had stayed after she had returned home.
Ms Foley said Squance had been turning to alcohol for assistance with his anxiety and depression and had grabbed the kitchen knives as he left the home as he intended to self-harm.
The magistrates ordered him to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work for the community and to pay a fine, costs and charges totalling £290.
He was also banned from driving for 19 months but was offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course which will reduce the period of the ban by 19 weeks.
