Police funding plan ‘not working’

Lincolnshire Police, which currently relies on government funding for just over half of its budget, has suffered a 30 per cent funding cut from 2010-2011 figures have revealed.

Nationally, the sustainability of the police has been called into question by the Committee of Public Accounts.

Meg Hillier MP, chair of the Committee of Public Accounts, said: “Sustained funding cuts have resulted in almost a fifth fewer police officers and staff than eight years ago, yet the government does not seem to understand the impact of this on local policing.

“The police funding formula isn’t working and the Home Office still has no immediate plans to change it, despite pledging to reform it three years ago.”
