Celebration time for a host of Spalding High School A Level students

With an over 99 per cent pass rate and a host of A* and A grades, there were plenty of happy faces at Spalding High School this morning (Thursday) as students learned how they did.

Anna Villers was one of the school’s top performers picking up three A*s.

“I wasn’t expecting that,” she said next to tearful mum. “I was expecting maybe two of them to be good and another one a C.

“I’ve no idea what I’m going to do and haven’t applied for university.

“I might apply though clearing now though.”

Another with a clean sweep of grades is Abbie Crunckhorn.

She’s off to Durham University to study liberal arts alongside German.

“I’m delighted. I love the subjects I’m going to do and I’d like to work abroad at some point.”

One person who does know exactly the field they want to be in is Kirsty Harper.

She got into her first choice university at Newcastle to study zoology.

“I’ve always loved animals, she said. “I thought it would be brilliant to study them up close.”

Friends Alice Hendy and Katie Sutton had no idea they had both applied to study international development at the University of East Anglia. But they both managed to get in.

Alice, who got an A* in art, A in business and B in history, said: “I didn’t know what I wanted to do but I thought it would be something that’s really interesting to learn about.”

Katie, who had an A in biology, A in geography and C in chemistry, added: “We didn’t know we were both going and we mostly do different subjects. I can’t wait to start on September 24 now.”

Spalding High School headmistress Mrs Michelle Anderson, said: “This is an excellent set of results and we are all thrilled that the High School students have done so well.

“Our students work incredibly hard and have yet again been rewarded with tremendously pleasing results at A Level this year.

“This is a testament to their commitment and hard work alongside the support of their parents and the dedication of our experienced staff.

“The examination landscapes continue to be turbulent and students have faced these challenges with maturity and positivity and are to be commended for their resilience.

“Staff are to be highly commended too for ensuring that our students are both well taught and exam ready.

“Our A Level students achieved 58 per cent A* to B grades which is a positive set of results for this year group and the vast majority have secured places at their chosen university.

“We are very proud of our high pass rate, which is well over 99 per cent.

“We wish all our students the very best of luck and every success in the future. We would like to thank them for making Spalding High School the special place that it is.”
