SLBL cricket: Bowlers impress as Pinchbeck stay top, Sangha half-century in vain for Sutton

Pinchbeck are 20 points clear at the top of South Lincs and Border League Division Two after a seven-wicket success against Freiston 2nd on Saturday.

It was the bowlers who took most of the plaudits for the table-toppers at Freiston, with Mike Knight (4-40), Jamie Frost (3-39) and James Langford (3-15) knocking the hosts over for 102 in 28.1 overs.

Daniel Lumley (17) and skipper Connor Goodfellow (15) top scored for Freiston, who were blown away.

In reply, Pinchbeck lost their top three batsmen quite cheaply.

Matt Kidd (10), Nick Crook (14) and Mark Ramsden (12) were dismissed by John Horton (1-24), Steve Appleyard (1-33) and Lumley (1-18) respectively.

However, captain Danny Jackson (25 not out) and Lee Eyett (23 not out) kept their cool and got Pinchbeck over the line in the 29th over.

  • A fine 54 from Rajan Sangha and an unbeaten 48 by Josh Baker weren’t enough to stop Long Sutton losing to Freiston in the SLBL Premier Division on Saturday.

The pair shone in Sutton’s 196-9 at Paradise Field, with Taimur Mian (4-45) and Amarjeet Singh (3-49) the pick of the away bowlers.

Will Naylor (1-27), Barry Stanway (1-39) and Ed Munson (1-32) took wickets for Sutton as they tried to bowl out their visitors, but Sunil Panjwani (64) and Zeeshan Saeed (43 not out) took the game away from them as Freiston closed on 197-3.

  • Spalding Town 2nd moved away from the drop zone in SLBL Division One with a 20-run win over Baston.

Batting first, Town made 148 at the Memorial Field before bowling their visitors out for 128.

  • A top all-round display from Jack Sawyer couldn’t stop Spalding Town 3rd losing to Grantham 3rd in SLBL Division Two.

Sawyer took 3-61 with the ball as Grantham made 223-8 batting first at Spalding Grammar School, before top scoring with 40 in reply as Town were bowled out for 129.
