Boost for Long Sutton Hockey Club as new coaches arrive to drive teams forward

This season will see an exciting new coaching set up for the senior teams at Long Sutton Hockey Club – and they are hoping it’ll help them attract new players.

The ladies’ section have just secured Neil Evans on a two-year coaching deal and are looking forward to further improving both teams, a process he began last season.

Evans has a wide coaching experience and, while he worked well with the whole club last year, this season he is concentrating his efforts on the ladies’ section as he looks to help both teams push for promotion.

He is a current National League player and his coaching skills cover the whole range, from beginner all the way up to the top, and his easy approachable style made him an instant hit at Sutton, where his input made a big difference.

The ladies’ section consists of two teams and train on Wednesday evenings from 7pm at the Peele Leisure Centre – with the first training session of the summer being on Wednesday (August 1).

Meanwhile, the men’s section have secured the highly-regarded Mike Yeoman on a two-year coaching deal from this year.

A full senior international, he comes with an excellent pedigree and can boast over 40 years as a coach.

He has achieved major success wherever he has coached, from school and junior teams through to the adults – where he has recently guided Peterborough men’s 1st team to the National League.

Sutton are looking forward to Yeoman helping all three men’s teams raise their level over the next two years by assisting their improvement – and are excited for the coming season.

Sutton’s men’s section consists of three teams and train on Tuesday evenings from 7pm at the Peele Leisure Centre. Their first session is on Tuesday (July 31).

Pre-season training – for both the ladies and men – is open to current club players who are looking to play adult hockey this year.

It is also open for any players looking to come and join the club.

Contact information for the club can be found on their website www.longsuttonhockey.co.uk and you can also email [email protected] for more information.
