Holbeach Rotary Club closes with big cheque

Young people in and around Holbeach will benefit from the demise of a town club.

The Rotary Club has closed its branch in the town and presented a £4,000 cheque to Holbeach Hub.

The money will complete the funding of the hub’s Play Garden project.

President Colin Scott handed the cheque to Coun Tracey Carter during the town’s food festival held at the weekend.

The club announced its closure in May and is transferring its activities to the Rotary Club of Spalding and Welland.

“The town is going to miss all that you have done for many years in Holbeach,” said Tracey.

“Thank-you hugely for the donation to the Holbeach Hub which means we can complete the work outside which will be enjoyed for many years and will be a wonderful memory of just one of the many contributions that you have made to the town.

“We look forward to seeing you at Christmas time on the sleigh and send great thanks and appreciation to each of the members,” she added.

“We wish you well and are so sorry that the club will no longer continue as the Holbeach Branch.

The Holbeach Hub is home to the South Holland Explorer Scouts, youth club and Citizens Advice Bureau.

It offers facilities for hire including a sports hall and also has car parking and superfast broadband.

From October, the Fleet Street venue will be hosting Lincolnshire Throws Academy which is run by Geoff Capes and his son Lewis.

The three-time Olympian, from Holbeach, is also to be inducted into the England Athletics Hall of Fame

He is the most capped British male athlete of all time – with 67 international caps and 35 for England.

The Lincolnshire Throws Academy has been running for nine years. For more details about the academy, email: [email protected]
