Armed Forces Day parade a success

Veterans paraded through Spalding on Tuesday, June 26, for the annual Armed Forces Day Parade.

Organiser Coun Jan Whitbourn said attendees included personnel from RAF Conningsby, local ex-service associations, street pastors and army cadets.

After meeting at the Red Lion hotel for tea, the parade set off from a specially decorated Market Place, where traders had adorned their stalls with bunting and flags.

The parade let to St Mary and St Nicholas Church, where Rev John Bennett gave a service and prayers, followed by a rendition of Bring Him Home, performed by Craig Delaney.

Coun Whitbourn said: “The serving personnel said that It was both an honour and a privilege to participate in such a momentous occasion and It is testament to the character of the town’s residents in their resounding support of the Armed Forces and something we should be immensely proud of.

“The personnel enjoyed taking part along with the cadets from Holbeach and Spalding.”
