Spalding dementia group has history talk

Spalding Gentlemen’s Society took artefacts from its museum to a meeting of a dementia group in Spalding.

Members of the Tonic Health Movement 4Memory Dementia Cafe enjoyed the talk from Tom Grimes from the society.

Mr Grimes gave an overview of the museum’s collection.

It was also a hands-on afternoon – group members were able to examine and pass around 3D-printed copies of an ancient statue, Bronze Age axe heads and a mammoth’s tooth.

In addition, Mr Grimes also took along with him a sedan chair, an early telescope and the book entry recording Isaac Newton’s membership to the society.

A lively question and answer session followed.

Tonic Health is based at the rear of Broadgate House on Westlode Street and provides a range of projects, including Dementia Support Services.

The Wednesday café events offer yoga, Tai Chi, gentle movement exercise and there a programme of talks.
