Three cyclists from Quadring will ride from Scotland to London next week for a veterans charity.
Army veterans and rugby fans Peter Elrick (60) and Tim Barnes (45) will cycle more than 500 miles from Murrayfield in Edinburgh to Twickenham, ending at the stadium on the day of the Babcock Trophy Army v Navy match in May.
Peter and Tim, who both served in Northern Ireland and Bosnia, will be joined by fellow cyclist Danny Allen (34).
The trio are riding to raise money for the Combat Stress charity, which helps military veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Pete and Tim have friends with PTSD and said the charity treats what they say is an “unseen condition”.
The ride begins on April 28 at Murrayfield and will be completed in legs, the longest being 124 miles riding from the start point to
Berwick.
The group ride together every Monday and have raised money already with race nights and bingo events.
Peter said he started cycling four years ago as light physiotherapy.
Since then, his group has raised more than £5,000 for prostate cancer and cancers research charities.
The new appeal’s goal is £2,222, a figure inspired by the recent viral 22 Pushup Challenge, which promoted awareness for veteran
suicide prevention.
