Cannabis plants found in woman’s home

A 36-year-old woman has been conditionally discharged after a court heard that she had been growing cannabis plants in a  cupboard in the bedroom of her Sutton Bridge home.

Deborah Marie Doy of Princes Street, Sutton Bridge, admitted being concerned in the production of cannabis, when she appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.

Jim Clare, prosecuting, said officers went to her home on an unrelated matter at midday on October 10 and when they searched the front bedroom, they found four small cannabis plants being grown under lights and a fan heater in a cupboard.

Tony Cunningham, mitigating, said Doy did not sleep well but had found that, on the recommendation of a friend,  cannabis relaxed her and enabled her to sleep, so she had decided to grow her own.

He said Doy, who has no previous convictions, was ‘certain she will not touch cannabis again’.

She was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges.
