Iris signs-off with a bench

The joint manager of the Chosen Charity in Holbeach is retiring.

Iris Boland has been with the group for more than six years, the last four-and-a-half as treasurer, but the start of a new year has seen her step down.

“I decided it was time to retire and have some me time. I have enjoyed my years with Chosen but what started as half a day a week, ended as a full time occupation. I wish Mary and all the volunteers every success for the future,” she said.

When she took over as treasurer in 2013, the charity gave away £19,385.

Her final report shows that during 2017, Chosen donated more than £50,000 to a number of local charities.

“I have lots of things I want to do, start line dancing again and I lead the health walks,” said Iris.

A recent £1,000 donation to the East Elloe Lions resulted in two benches for Holbeach and the first completed is in honour of Chosen.

“What a fitting reminder of my years,” she added.
